NAKILAT AND Q-SHIP NAME THIRD LPG CARRIER – “AL WUKIR”

Mr. Mohamed Khalifa Al-Sada, director of Qatar Shipping Company Q.S.C. and Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L. and the Chairman of Qatar Quarries and Building Materials Company, has named the third vessel in a series of four Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC) as “Al Wukir” at an elegant and dignified naming ceremony held at Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (HHI), Ulsan, South Korea. Mr. Mohamed Khalifa Al-Sada has been associated with the shipping industry for three decades. This naming ceremony was attended by a host of other dignitaries.
Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L is a 50:50 joint venture between Qatar Gas Transport Company Ltd. (Nakilat) and Qatar Shipping Company Q.S.C. (Q-Ship) specifically formed to own and operate Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carriers. It has already taken delivery of the first two LPG carriers, the third ship will be delivered in the last week of December 2008 and the last ship will be delivered in the first quarter of 2009.
With the growth in production of LNG, the volume and trade in LPG from Qatar will also increase. With the formation of this company, Nakilat and have Q-Ship have positioned themselves to meet the expected LPG trade demand growth.
Under the terms of a vessel management agreement, Nakilat, through the wholly-owned subsidiary, Nakilat Shipping (Qatar) Limited, will operate the 82,000m3 capacity carriers.
