NAKILAT AND QATARGAS NAME FOUR OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST LNG CARRIERS

South Korea, July 3rd, 2009 - Nakilat and vessel charterer Qatargas Operating Company Ltd. proudly announce the naming of four of the world’s largest LNG carriers at a naming ceremony celebration held at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. shipyard on Geoje Island, Korea.

     

The first ship “Al Khattiya” was named by Ms. Sara Bailouni, daughter of Mr. Samir Bailouni, Fleet Management Director - Nakilat. The second vessel, “Al Karaana” was named by Ms. Noora Al-Kharji, LNG Sales Administrator - Qatargas. The third ship “Al Nuaman”, was named by Mrs. Johara Al-Marwani, spouse of Mr. Mohammed Al Naimi, Director and General Manager of South Hook LNG Terminal Company Ltd., while the fourth vessel “Al Bahiya” was officially named by Mrs. Fatma Al-Haddad, spouse of Mr. Ali Al-Kharraz, Shift Supervisor – Qatargas. All four ships are Q-Flex series (210,000 CBM) LNG carriers.

Mr. Muhammad Ghannam, Nakilat Managing Director, said; “Nakilat has achieved many important milestones since our ship building program started just a few short years ago and today is no exception with four of the world’s largest LNG carriers being named today. During the next year all of our 25 wholly-owned new LNG ships, 14 Q-Max and 11 Q-Flex, will be fully operational. These twenty-five vessels, along with our 29 jointly-owned ships are part of our 54 vessel fleet built by the Korean shipyards. Thirty-two of these LNG carriers will be dedicated to Qatargas.”

Mr. Rob Dakers, Chief Operating Officer – QG4 Ventures said, “We are proud to celebrate this achievement with Daewoo and all the people who have contributed towards making this project a reality. The new vessels will be used in shipping LNG to customers world-wide and I am sure the new fleet will help Qatargas deliver its LNG cargos on time and in line with the highest international safety standards.”

Qatargas 4 shareholders are Qatar Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell.
