Nakilat – Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. (N-KOM) Sign MoU with Qatari Navy for Ship Repair Services

Doha, Qatar, 30 March 2010

Doha, Qatar, 30 March 2010 – Nakilat – Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. (N-KOM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with the Qatari Navy and for ship repair services at Nakilat’s new world-class ship repair and shipbuilding facilities in the Port of Ras Laffan, Qatar.

The MoU agreement covering the ‘Scope of Work for Ship Repair Services’ provides for the following:

  • Dry-docking and repairs of Qatari Navy and other military auxiliary vessels in accordance with planned maintenance program requirements.
  • Afloat repairs of Qatari Navy vessels.
  • Periodic maintenance and servicing of machineries outside of the dry-docking program.
  • Major upgrades and conversions of vessels and/or machineries and operating systems.
  • Emergency repairs in the event of machinery breakdowns or system failures.
  • Procurement services for machinery spare parts and materials.

The Qatar Emiri Naval Force’s Staff Brigadier (Sea) Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Mohannadi said, “This MoU with Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. (N-KOM) will provide maintenance services and program logistical support to the QNEF which will greatly extend the Fleet readiness capabilities in carrying out its duties to protect Qatar’s economic interests and territorial waters.”

Muhammad Ghannam, Nakilat’s Managing Director said, “This MoU agreement with the Qatari Navy is not only an important milestone in the development and growth of N-KOM, it is a key initiative for the State of Qatar and moves forward the vision and foresight of H. H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani to open Qatar’s doors to direct foreign investment. This initiative will make a significant contribution to the development and expansion of Qatar’s industrial base by creating a new marine industries and services sector, further strengthen Qatar’s economic growth”.
